moe. continued their extensive Summer Tour this past Saturday night at The Truman in Kansas City. The band dug deep into their repertoire for a few bust outs including a Rush cover and brought out percussionist Mike Dillon to lend a hand on an old favorite.

The quintet opened the show with bassist Rob Derhak leading the way on “Lazarus.” Chuck Garvey then fronted the group on “It” before Al Schnier stepped into the spotlight for “Angel.” moe.’s first set in Kansas City rolled on with a “Mar-DeMa” > “Billy Goat” > “Bring You Down” sequence that spanned well over 30 minutes. The band went on to close the frame with a pairing of the recently debuted “New Hope For The New Year” and Schnier’s old favorite “Bearsong.”

moe. began their seamless second set in Kansas City with the first “Zed Naught Z” since April 8, 2017. The quintet jammed the song into a cover of “Tom Sawyer” by Rush led by percussionist Jim Loughlin. moe. had last performed the Rush song way back on September 25, 2015. The final notes of “Tom Sawyer” were followed by Derhak kicking into “Kyle’s Song.”

Saturday’s “Kyle’s Song” gave way to a version of “Kids” featuring an adventurous “George” within. moe. then welcomed Mike Dillon for a bombastic “Meat.” Dillon took an impressive percussion solo ahead of a bass solo from Rob Derhak. Drummer Vinnie Amico then presented a solo of his own before Schnier led the augmented band to a huge peak to close out “Meat.” moe. had a double encore in store starting with a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Casey Jones” and ended with a quick romp through “Stranger Than Fiction.”
