“This June has been a particularly important month for civil rights. Millions of protestors have taken to the streets across the US and around the world to express their opposition to police brutality. Last Friday was Juneteenth, which celebrates the day in 1865 when slaves in Galveston, TX first learned that they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation … two years after the fact. And June is Pride Month, celebrating everyone’s right to love the person of their choice.”
