Fruit Bats (Eric D. Johnson) released a new single, “We Used To Live Here.” The song is set for Fruit Bats’ forthcoming album, A River Running to Your Heart, due out on April 14 via Merge Records.

Johnson heralded A River Running to Your Heart with the album single “Waking Up In Los Angeles” in November 2022. The official album announcement arrived in January 2023 along with the single “Rushin’ River Valley.” Fruit Bats followed with “It All Comes Back” in February and now share “We Used To Live Here,” the final advance single before A River Running to Your Heart arrives in April.

“We Used To Live Here” is a stripped-down track that reflects the song’s subject matter, as Johnson explained:

“This song is about a couple of different life moments that we all have. One is the moment when you move out of a place and the last box has been put into the truck and suddenly the space is empty and echo-ey, and then you walk out the door for the last time. Depending on the time and nature of your stay, the feeling in that moment can range anywhere from bittersweet to crushingly sad. The other moment is driving by that place a year or two later, and the weird ghosty feeling that can give you.”
