THE TIME IS RIGHT FOR DANCING IN THE STREETS

The weekend is upon us. Beer cans pick up condensation in coolers, work shoes are set aside for flip-flops, and if we’re lucky we stumble into some moments of genuine respite before the Monday alarm rings. And few things make the weekend roll like good music. With that in mind, we begin a new Friday tradition here at JamBase, where we’ll set up your first six-pack of quality sounds to help y’all settle into your weekend in style.

This week’s assortment begins with Chicago (when they were still Chicago Transit Authority) in top flight funk form fueled by the stupendous guitar work of the late Terry Kath. Then it’s onto one of the silliest tunes in the McCartney arsenal with more stomping, good time guitar. That’s followed by Shel Silverstein and Dr. Hook‘s ode/lament to getting lifted and Todd Snider‘s reunion with an old chum through the escort pages. We finish with a pair of songs from The Black Crowes and The Posies‘s Ken Stringfellow perfect for washing off the week’s residue so you can set foot into Saturday with a smile on your face.
