On January 30, 2014 Umphrey’s McGee original drummer Mike Mirro sadly died at the young age of 36. Mirro was with the band from their start in 1998 through his departure in 2002. After a stint pursuing medicine, he returned to music, and a posthumously released solo album Superior Virtuosity has now been made available.
Mirro plays percussion and keyboards on the 8-song release and was joined on various tracks by guitarist Marcus Rezak, bassist John Ovnik, vocalist Patrice Forde, violinist Carl Linden, cellist Michael Ferraro, bassist Buddy Pearson, guitarist Marco Villarreal and bassist Josh Hanchar. A note posted with the album reads:
TTSV…Truth Through Superior Virtuosity. One of Mikey’s mottos to live by. He truly understood the Tempo of Life. Genius. His music Echoes in Eternity.
