Foo Fighters Offer Up A Pair Of Bust Outs At Tour Opener In Australia

On Saturday night Foo Fighters kicked off a five-date tour Down Under, which features four shows throughout Australia and one in New Zealand. The run got underway with a gig at the nib Stadium in Perth, Western Australia that saw the multi-platinum selling rock act deliver a pair of bust outs during their encore.

Dave Grohl & Co. opened their first show of 2018 with “Run” from their most recent release Concrete And Gold. From there the Foos 19-song main set saw them delivered a selection of songs from eight of their studio albums, which included takes on fan-favorites “Learn To Fly,” “My Hero,” “These Days,” “Monkey Wrench” and “Best Of You.”

The band saved their biggest surprises for the end of the night. Grohl emerged by himself with an acoustic guitar to kick off the five-song extended encore by performing the “Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners” for the first time since May of 2014. Grohl was inspired to write the instrumental track from 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace after hearing the story about gold mine collapse in the town of Beaconsfield in the Australian island state of Tasmania, where two miners were trapped for two weeks as they awaited rescue. During the rescue mission, along with other necessary supplies, one of the miners requested an iPod be sent down to him filled with Foo Fighters songs.

Grohl remained on stage solo as he then served up his second bust out of the night playing The Beatles’ “Blackbird” for the first time since September of 2015 and just the ninth attempt at the White Album track. The rest of the band returned next as they finished off the night with a trio of their most well-known tunes – “Times Like These,” “This Is A Call” and “Everlong.”
