Foo Fighters Jam With Fan & Tease ‘You Oughta Know’ At Blossom Music Center

Back in October, JamBase reader and talented drummer Pierce Edge convinced Foo Fighters to let him get behind the kit at the band’s visit to Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, South Carolina for a cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure.” Pierce started a trend as Foo Fighters have gone on to jam with a number of fans over the past eight months. The latest Foo Fighters/fan collaboration took place on Wednesday night at Blossom Music Center near Cleveland.
Foo Fighters invited a fan named Lukas on stage to play lead guitar on their 1997 hit “Monkey Wrench.” Lukas did a good job and took a meaty solo as frontman Dave Grohl sipped from a bottle of champagne. Grohl told the crowd, “This is great, I don’t have to play guitar” as per a Cleveland Scene report.
Here’s fan-shot footage of Lukas’ scene-stealing appearance shared by Korinne’s Videos:

“Monkey Wrench” came as part of a Foo Fighters’ concert heavy on material from Concrete & Gold, their most recent album. The band also worked in plenty of their best-known songs including “All My Life,” “Learn To Fly,” “My Hero” and “Best Of You.”
As usual, Grohl and his mates threw a batch of covers into the mix. In addition to Alice Cooper’s “Under My Wheels” and Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust” came a mashup of “Jump” by Van Halen and John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Then, during a series of band introductions, Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins talked about their history at the Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio venue. Dave asked Taylor if he had played at Blossom during his days as Alanis Morissette’s drummer. Hawkins performed a little bit of Morissette’s hit “You Oughta Know” and Grohl sang along adding, “One of these days we’re gonna bust out that Alanis Morissette shit and it’s gonna blow your minds!” The drummer made mention he’d like to see Alanis sit-in with the group. Foo Fighters went on to cover a few more measures of Morissette’s 1995 smash before aborting the song.

Foo Fighters continued on with a cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure” featuring Luke Spiller from The Struts on vocals and Grohl on drums. Lukas’ guest appearance came next before the band ended the set with “Run,” “Breakout,” “Dirty Water” and “Best Of You.” The evening then concluded with the power-packed encore of “Times Like These,” “This Is A Call” and “Everlong.”
