Foo Fighters continued their 2023 tour in Oceania with a run that started on Wednesday with a concert at HBF Park in Perth, Australia. After offering the live debut and rare performance of songs from 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, the group paid tribute to legendary Australian rock band AC/DC.

Dave Grohl and his bandmates were led by their Australian drum tech Fiona through AC/DC’s “Big Balls” late in the concert. “Big Balls” was originally released by AC/DC on their 1976 studio album, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

The Foo Fighters’ debut performance of “Big Balls” was the penultimate song of their main set in Perth. Last night’s show was part of the band’s first tour of Australia and New Zealand since 2018.

Fiona emerged and shouted out the lyrics made famous by Bon Scott. “Let’s do this,” Fiona shouted as the crowd sang along. “Let’s fucking here it for Fiona,” Grohl told the audience at the end of the cover. “She does have the biggest fucking balls of anybody here, that’s for sure!”

“Big Balls” wasn’t the only surprise fans in Perth were treated to by Foo Fighters last night. A section in the middle of the show was devoted to performances of Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace rarities. First, Grohl was joined by guitarist Chris Shiflett and keyboardist Rami Jaffee for an acoustic version of “Statues,” which was the live debut of the song. Then, Dave Grohl delivered a solo take on “Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners,” a song he penned about two miners that were trapped in the Beaconsfield gold mine collapse in Tasmania, Australia back in 2006.

While the Foo Fighters frontman recently played “Ballad Of The Beaconsfield Miners” (as well as “Statues” and more) during an appearance on the Norah Jones Is Playing Along podcast, the cut hadn’t been played live since 2018 as per Setlist.FM.

The rest of Foo Fighters’ show in Perth was loaded with classics such as “All My Life,” “Times Like These,” “My Hero” and “Learn To Fly” as well as staples and four songs off the band’s 2023 studio album, But Here We Are. Additionally, the band offered tour debuts of “Stacked Actors” and “Arlandia.” In typical fashion, Foo Fighters closed the night with the beloved “Everlong.”

Foo Fighters return to the stage on Saturday in Adelaide. Watch more audience-shot footage from Wednesday’s show here:
