Foo Fighters performed at the 9:30 Club on Thursday as part of the Washington D.C. venue’s grand reopening week. The band’s frontman, Dave Grohl, took an opportunity towards the end of the concert to reveal an exact replica of the original 9:30 Club is being built next door to the current venue.

The original 9:30 Club opened at 930 F Street NW in 1980 before the venue moved to its current location at 815 V St NW in 1996. “Who remembers the old 9:30 Club? Do you remember the old 9:30 Club? It’s a fucking J Crew right now, whatever the fuck it is. The old 9:30 Club … that was our church,” Grohl told the crowd as first reported by WTOP. “That’s where we all played first. That’s where REM played first. That’s where the [Red Hot] Chili Peppers played first. That’s where Nirvana played first.”

“Now, guess what — they’re going to open up a place that’s an exact replica of the old 9:30, right next door,” Dave explained. “Nobody knows that, because I’m the first one to tell you right now.”

Audrey Fix Schaefer, communications director for 9:30 Club operators IMP told WTOP the new venue replicating the original 9:30 Club will open at 2047 9th St. NW at the site of the former Satellite Room. “While the new club promises to look just like the original, it will not have the notorious stench nor the huge and plentiful rats that old-school patrons so fondly recall,” Schaefer said in a statement as per DCist. Look for additional information, including the club’s name and opening date, to be revealed soon.

Foo Fighters stuck to a similar setlist on Thursday as at other stops on their current tour with one exception. The band dusted off “Weenie Beenie” from their self-titled 1995 debut studio album for the first time since September 1, 2018.
