The Flaming Lips Share Bob Dylan Cover ‘Lay Lady Lay’
The Flaming Lips unveiled their cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Lay Lady Lay” from Dylan Revisited, a compilation put together by Uncut. Wayne Coyne and his mates added a psychedelic twist to the tune while still honoring the original.
Dylan Revisited was assembled to accompany Uncut’s June issue in tribute to Bob Dylan’s 80th birthday which comes on May 24. Courtney Marie Andrews, Thurston Moore, Weyes Blood and Richard Thompson are among others who contributed Bob Dylan covers to the project.
Bob Dylan wrote “Lay Lady Lay” and originally released the song on his 1969 album, Nashville Skyline. While Dylan initially penned the tune for inclusion on the Midnight Cowboy soundtrack, he didn’t complete the track in time. The Flaming Lips join a large list of acts who have covered “Lay Lady Lay” that also includes Buddy Guy, Duran Duran, Melanie, the Byrds and many others.
