Mike Gordon :: 2.23.18 :: Emo’s :: Austin, TX

Bassist Mike Gordon wrapped up his first tour of 2018 with a Texas two-step starting with a Friday night performance at Emo’s in Austin. The co-founding member of Phish had been on the road with guitarist Scott Murawski, drummer John Kimock, keyboardist Robert Walter and percussionist Craig Myers since February 9.

Mike played “Victim” to start both sets. “Victim” opened the first set and “Victim 3D” kicked off the second set. Other OGOGO tracks that made the setlist in Austin were “So Far Gone,” “Steps,” “Pendulum,” “Go Away” and “Let’s Go.” The five-piece also hit upon material from Gordon and Murawski’s other bands right after “Victim” in the form of Max Creek’s “Cruel World” and Phish’s “Meat.” Gordon & Co. dipped into the back catalog for “Traveled Too Far” off The Green Sparrow and Overstep’s “Peel.” The latter was used as an introduction and conclusion to one of Mike and Scott’s most ambitious pieces, “Trapezoidal Sunshine.” Austin fans were also treated to covers of Tame Impala’s “Mind Mischief” and “Sweet Emotion” by Aerosmith as well as an encore of “How Many People Are You.” Photographer Stephen Olker captured the action:
