DelFest is known for the impressive collaborations it hosts and this year’s festival was no exception. The Travelin’ McCourys treated festival-goers to a guest-filled set on May 26 and JamBase is pleased to premiere official video of a highlight which took place that night at Allegany County Fairgrounds in Cumberland, Maryland.
Ronnie McCoury, Jason Carter, Cody Kilby, Alan Bartram and Rob McCoury took the Grandstand Main Stage on the Saturday night of DelFest ’18. The band recruited bluegrass legends Ricky Skaggs and Sam Bush as well as Ronnie’s son Heaven McCoury to contribute to a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Loose Lucy” towards the end of the set. Sam played an electric mandolin, while Ricky utlized an electric guitar.

The Grateful Dead recorded “Loose Lucy” for 1973’s From The Mars Hotel. “Loose Lucy” was played by the Dead a number of times in 1973 and 1974 before it was shelved until 1990. “We think it’s a fun tune to play and really lends itself to some jammin’,” Ronnie McCoury tells JamBase. “The Travelin’ McCourys just threw this on Sam and Ricky and it turned out pretty good!”
