Eggy and Dogs In A Pile joined forces to co-headline The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Friday and Saturday nights. Both bands loaded the stage for each encore, with Friday’s featuring a medley of Steely Dan and Grateful Dead tunes and Saturday’s including a pair of GD covers.
Capitol Theatre operator and impresario Pete Shapiro flipped a coin to determine which band would headline each night. Eggy headlined Friday while Dogs In A Pile headlined on Saturday.

Dogs In A Pile — guitarists Jimmy Law and Brian Murray, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan, bassist Sam Lucid and drummer Joey Babick — launched their 90-minute set on Friday with fan-favorite “Look Johnny II” and then took “Nicolette” deep. A cover of The Kinks’ “Apeman” followed before the quintet reeled off staples “Today,” “Ugly Song” and “G Song.” Next, DIAP played the holiday classic “Linus and Lucy” ahead of the recently-debuted “Lazy Susan.” An adventurous “Look Johnny” and funky “Bubble” closed the first set of the weekend.
Eggy — guitarist Jake Brownstein, keyboardist Dani Battat, drummer Alex Bailey/strong> and bassist Mike Goodman — went with “Here And Now” to get their Friday night set underway. The quartet then delivered “A Moments Notice” and linked their own “Sweaters For Strawman” and their first cover of John Brown Body’s “Searchlight” since November 3, 2019 for a 37-minute sequence. After a performance of “12 Pounds Of Pain,” the Connecticut-based band celebrated Jake’s birthday with an “Eggy Birthday Song.” Eggy then went acoustic to wrap the frame with “Thorns” and Elton John deep cut “Bad Side Of The Moon.”
All nine musicians came out for the date-appropriate Steely Dan classic “Black Friday.” Eggy and Dogs In A Pile quickly segued into the Grateful Dead’s “Bird Song” and went back and forth between the tunes with a massive jam as part of the mashup. Friday’s encore spanned nearly 27 minutes.

Eggy kicked off the action on Saturday with the beloved “Shadow.” The ensuing “High Noon” led into exploratory versions of “Shallow Rivers” and “All Wheels Turnin’.” From there, Melt vocalist Veronica Stewart-Frommer and guitarist Marlo Shankweiler emerged for a two-song guest appearance. The pair added to the Eggy debut of Melt’s “Plant The Garden” and the live premiere of Waiting Game track “So Long.” Alex Bailey came up front for “So Long” while Joey Babick handled drum duties. The four-piece ended the set by pairing “Woah There” and “Smile.”
Dogs In A Pile went heavy on staples with a run of “Little Things,” “You Didn’t Hear It From Me” and “Bent Strange” to start their set on Saturday. The month-old original “Burning Daylight” came next and bled into “Chop Shop.” A standalone “Thomas Duncan, Pt. 3” prefaced the band’s second-ever cover of Rage Against The Machine’s “Bulls On Parade” following its debut on Halloween as part of DIAP’s “Guitar Hero” set. “Rinky Dink Rag” then led into a set-closing “Say Something.”
Eggy and Dogs In A Pile devoted Saturday’s encore to Grateful Dead covers after an introduction from Pete Shapiro as “the future.” The two bands lit into the fitting “One More Saturday Night” before ending the show and run with “The Music Never Stopped.”
