Watch Eggy Uncrate Explosive 30-Minute ‘Boom Or Bust’ In Boston

Eggy rolled out official video of a 30-minute “Boom Or Bust” performance captured at Brighton Music Hall in Boston on November 16, 2023. The well-jammed version, played on keyboardist Dani Battat‘s birthday, showcases the band’s improvisational abilities.

The quartet comprised of Battat, guitarist Jake Brownstein, bassist Mike Goodman and drummer Alex Bailey debuted “Boom Or Bust” on July 14, 2020 during their Live From The Egg Crate livestream performance. “Boom Or Bust” barely stretched passed the six-minute mark that night.

Due to the pandemic, “Boom Or Bust” wouldn’t be played in front of an in-person audience until August 7, 2021. Eggy soon began using the song as a jam vehicle. The version in Boston was taken particularly deep. Mike Goodman laid down a bassline even more akin to Steely Dan’s “Reelin’ In The Years” than what he usually plays that anchored the first movement of the jam. Eggy wound up debuting two Steely Dan covers at Brooklyn Bowl just a few nights later.

Brownstein’s guitar rode over Goodman’s “Reelin'”-esque bassline and fierce groove propelled by Bailey while Battat colored the improvisation with piano and synth tones. The guitarist and keyboardist both started ripping for a ferocious peak before the lyrics came back in. It didn’t take long until Eggy returned to jam mode. The second jam saw the band move between tempos with Battat at the forefront and Brownstein focusing on rhythms initially.

The Boston “Boom Or Bust” ended in dance party form after Jake delivered an arpeggiated run that served as the base for the final movement. Brownstein varied the sequence patiently and deliberately for nearly 10 minutes using a phaser effect until he kicked in an overdriven tone as the jam reached its climax. Battat sang the last chorus backed by the rhythm section to end the lengthy “Boom Or Bust.”
