Eddie Vedder Shares Potent Cover Of Neil Young’s ‘The Needle And The Damage Done’

Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder recorded Neil Young’s “The Needle And The Damage Done” for the Heart Of Gold: The Songs Of Neil Young covers compilation. The first of two volumes of the all-star tribute will arrive on April 25 through Cinema Music Group and Killphonic Records.

Stephen Marley’s take on Young’s “Old Man” was also released along with Vedder’s cover. Those tracks join previously shared versions of “Lotta Love” by Courtney Barnett and “Southern Man” by Chris Pierce. The first volume also features Neil Young’s songs recorded by Brandi Carlile, Fiona Apple, Mumford & Sons, Sharon Van Etten, The Lumineers, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, Anders Osborne, and The Doobie Brothers with Allison Russell.

Proceeds from Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young will go to The Bridge School non-profit organization in Hillsborough, California, which was founded by Pegi Young, Jim Forderer and speech and language pathologist, Dr. Marilyn Buzolic.
