Dwight Yoakam will release his first album of new music in nine years, Brighter Days, on November 15 through Via Records/Thirty Tigers. The renowned country artist teamed with newly minted country artist Post Malone for the lead single, “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom).”
Dwight Yoakam’s last album of new music, Second Hand Heart, arrived in 2015. Dwight released Swimmin’ Pools, Movie Stars… in 2016, an album featuring bluegrass versions of older songs.
The Yoakam-produced Brighter Days contains 12 originals along with two covers: the Carter Family classic “Keeping On The Sunny Side” and Cake’s “Bound Away.” Grammy-winning engineer Chris Lord-Alge mixed the record.

Press materials for Brighter Days described the album as “embracing a ‘cowpunk-tual’ attitude” and reflecting “a sense of craftsmanship and immediacy, capturing the quintessential Dwight Yoakam ‘cool’ that has set him apart from his country contemporaries since the beginning of his legendary career. As always, Yoakam’s lyrics throughout the album are both deceptively effortless and profoundly poignant.”
The first taste of Brighter Days is a collaboration between Dwight Yoakam and Post Malone. Dwight wrote “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom)” with Posty in mind. Listen below:
