Duane Trucks Discusses The Future Of Widespread Panic In New Interview

More than 30 years into their illustrious career, Georgia rockers Widespread Panic are slowing down in 2017. After an extremely active year in 2016, the band only has a handful of festival appearances on the horizon, a change in the group’s touring schedule keyboardist JoJo Hermann warned fans about. Drummer Duane Trucks discussed the future of WSP in a new interview with Atlanta Business Chronicle.
The good news is that Trucks thinks the members of the band are still in it for the long haul. “As it is now, the day when those guys don’t want to play is pretty far off in the distance. They definitely still want to play but they’ve been hitting the road hard for more than 30 years and they’ve never known what it’s like to slow down. They’ve only ever taken two small breaks in their 30-year history. For them, it’s therapeutic, I don’t know if that’s the right word, but to just be able to see what normal home life is like,” Duane said.
In 2015, Widespread Panic issued their latest studio album, Street Dogs. The band has been discussing what lies ahead when it comes to new material and a new album, though nothing is set in stone. “There’s been talk and ideas of songs with Panic since we did the last album. I have no idea what timeframe but hope another album will be made in the next few years now that we’re all comfortable with each other. I was three or four months into the band when we recorded ‘Street Dogs,’” Trucks added.
In addition to his time with Panic, Duane Trucks is also the drummer for Hard Working Americans. Duane revealed HWA will soon be entering the studio, “We’re heading back into the studio at the top of April. [Todd] Snider is always writing. He’s one of the heaviest dudes I’ve ever worked with and he has all these tunes that are jumping out of him so we’re going to go try to bask in the light of Snider’s genius. That should come out in the next year or year and a half. We have a live record we’ve been working on that will probably be out by the end of this year. It should be a fun couple of years ahead.”
