“He’s a player that’s not afraid to stare directly at the sun,” guitarist Derek Trucks said in reference to former The Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts. Trucks made the statement to Dickey’s son Duane Betts who used it as inspiration for the song “Stare At The Sun,” which he recorded with Trucks.
“Stare At The Sun” appears on Betts’ forthcoming solo debut album, Wild & Precious Life, which will be released on June 14 through Royal Potato Family. Betts recorded the 10-track LP at Trucks and his wife Susan Tedeschi’s Swamp Raga Studio in Jacksonville, Florida with guitarist Johnny Stachela, bassist Berry Duane Oakley, keyboardist John Ginty and Tedeschi Trucks Band drummer Tyler “Falcon” Greenwell. Along with Trucks, the album’s special guests include Marcus King and Nicki Bluhm.
