Dreaming Of Sleep Spotify Playlist

Musicians have long looked to the basic act of sleeping as a source of inspiration for composition both in lyrics and instrumentation. Bringing our lives to a halt in order to re-energize and stave of sleep deprivation is a regularly shared experience every living person. This week’s Spotify Playlist – Dreaming Of Sleep – collects songs that in some fashion touch on the concept of sleep and the dreams that come when we close our eyes.

It seems everyone has a different relationship with sleep: some look forward to closing their eyes with joyful anticipation of spending time in bed, others battle insomnia and are fearful of restless, wide-eyed nights. Some people regularly remember and are inspired (or even frightened) by the dreams produced while sleeping, others rarely remember the images inside their heads upon waking up. Long a source for artistic inspiration, there’s no shortage of songs that center on closing one’s eyes and drifting off to dreamland.

The 30 tracks in the Spotify Playlist are presented with songs about sleep first, followed by a suite of compositions about dreams. You’ll hear recordings by The Beatles, Phish, Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers Band, Pink Floyd, Willie Nelson, Talking Heads, Ben Harper, Umphrey’s McGee, Keller Williams, and many others across the nearly two-hour long set. So sit back, close your eyes and drift off with the playlist right here:
