The Doobie Brothers celebrated the recent release of their new album, Walk This Road, by appearing on the latest installment of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The legendary rockers followed a performance of the record’s “Learn To Let Go” by playing hits “Listen To The Music” and “Long Train Runnin'” for the Ed Sullivan Theater crowd as web exclusive bonus songs.

Walk This Road, which arrived last Friday on Rhino, featured the reunited lineup of Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston, John McFee and Michael McDonald. The 10-track LP included McDonald’s first contribution to new Doobie Brothers original music since 1980.

“Learn To Let Go” was penned by Michael McDonald and producer John Shanks. McDonald handles lead vocals with backing from Johnston and Simmons. “[It’s] a song about more or less one of the hardest lessons we learn in this life, especially where love is concerned and probably the last decision we make on this earthly plane,” McDonald said of the song.

The Doobie Brothers delivered a sing-along version of their 1972 hit “Listen To The Music” for Colbert. The Rock & Roll and Songwriter Hall of Famers also treated those in the audience to a rousing rendition of “Long Train Runnin'” from their 1973 album The Captain And Me.
