The Disco Biscuits hit The Anthem in Washington D.C. on Saturday. Bisco welcomed Philadelphia-based brass band and openers SNACKTIME for a trio of bust out covers to kick off the second set.
The Disco Biscuits — bassist Marc Brownstein, guitarist Jon “Barber” Gutwillig, keyboardist Aron Magner and drummer Allen Aucoin — kicked off the first set with the vintage “Plan B” followed by the Barber composition “Kitchen Mitts.” Bisco then embarked on a nearly 18-minute “Above The Waves” before heading into “Shocked!,” the title track to the band’s newly announced rock opera. Another new song, “The Deal,” followed before tDB returned to “Above The Waves” to cap the first frame.
With SNACKTIME in tow, The Biscuits launched the second set with Kool & The Gang’s funk number “Get Down On It,” which tDB had not played since debuting the cover on Halloween 2015 for a total gap of 267 shows. The collab kept the funk tunes rolling with Rick James’ “Give It To Me Baby,” which was last played nearly six years to the day on February 3, 2017. SNACKTIME stuck around for yet another bust out, David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance,” last time played on October 30, 2021, for a total gap of 67 shows.
SNACKTIME would depart as tDB flowed into “Caterpillar” ahead of two more new tunes, “Who’s In Charge?” and “The Wormhole,” which were split by the venue apropos “Anthem.” A return to “Caterpillar” sealed the seamless second set. Bisco would deliver “Story of The World” for the encore.
