In December of 2015, a report was published that a new bio series on the Grateful Dead was in the works from Amazon Studios. Few details of the series have been shared since until yesterday, when Deadline Hollywood revealed additional news of what’s in store.

Deadline Hollywood reports the series, which comes in addition to the long-awaited feature documentary Long Strange Trip that will soon premiere on Amazon, will be penned by Jonathan Herman. The series is still without a name and Herman, who is best known for his Academy Award-nominated script for Straight Outta Compton, will use longtime Grateful Dead crew member Steve Parish’s Home Before Daylight: My Life On The Road With The Grateful Dead memoir as its basis. The aim of the series is to capture the life and times of the Grateful Dead and the band’s memorable 30-year career.

Dead guitarist Bob Weir is aboard as executive producer for the series as is Steve Parish. Weir has also been tapped to oversee all music for the series. Current Grateful Dead manager Bernie Cahill and his ROAR firm are additional executive producers as per Deadline Hollywood. There’s no word on when the series will premiere. Head to Deadline Hollywood for more on Jonathan Herman’s career.
