A year after releasing The Queen Of Hearts, a collaborative album with British singer-songwriter Olivia Chaney, The Decemberists are back with a new studio album. On March 16, the Portland-based band will put out their eighth studio effort I’ll Be Your Girl via Capitol Records. The folk-rock act has also revealed a lengthy North American Tour in support.
For their follow-up to 2015’s What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, the band looked to changed directions bit. “Our ambition this time was really just to get out of our comfort zone. That’s what prompted working with a different producer and using a different studio,” said lead singer Colin Meloy. “We wanted to free ourselves from old patterns and give ourselves permission to try something different.”
The Decemberist tapped John Congleton (Alvvays, David Byrne/St. Vincent) to produce, with Meloy describing the record’s sound as “exuberant nihilism, an apocalyptic dance party” that draws influence from Roxy Music and early glam.
The Decemberists have also announced the details of their Your Girl / Your Ghost 2018 North American Tour, which kicks off on March 22 at the Fox Theater in Pomona, California. The 34-date run also includes a pair of shows at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on April 13 and 14, a stop at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival on May 25 and a tour-closing two-night hometown run at McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale, Oregon.
Additionally, the quintet will be offering a pair of exclusive ticketing options that they’ve dubbed THE WHOLE SHEBANG SUPER CONCERT ACTION PACKAGES™ via CID Entertainment. Each option will include premium seats, a pre-show performance and Q&A with the band, a signed poster and more.
