Death Cab For Cutie Releases ‘Foxglove Through The Clearcut’ Single

Death Cab for Cutie shared a new single entitled “Foxglove Through The Clearcut.” The song is featured on the band’s upcoming studio album, Asphalt Meadows, which is due out on Atlantic Records on September 16.

The quintet previously released the Asphalt Meadows songs “Roman Candles” and “Here To Forever.” Produced by John Congleton, the 11-track follow-up to 2018’s Thank You For Today marks Death Cab For Cutie’s tenth studio album. Asphalt Meadows, consisting solely of songs with lyrics written by frontman Ben Gibbard, was recorded during sessions at Los Angeles facilities Grumpybeard and United Recording as well as at Studio Litho in Seattle.

“‘Foxglove’ is by far the most personal song on the record. While I was writing it, I thought I was merely the narrator,” explained Gibbard. “But the longer I sat with it, I realized I was both the protagonist AND the narrator.” Ben both sings and offers spoken word interludes on the dreamy track that builds to multiple crescendos.

Death Cab For Cutie tapped longtime visual collaborator Juliet Bryant to prep a lyric video for the track. Watch the “Foxglove Through The Clearcut” lyric video below:
