Dead & Company unveiled official video featuring their performance of “High Time” from last year’s Playing In The Sand destination event. “High Time” was played on January 18, 2020 at Moon Palace Cancún in Riviera Cancun, Mexico.
Bassist Oteil Burbridge handles vocals on “High Time,” a song written by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia for inclusion on the Grateful Dead’s 1970 studio album, Workingman’s Dead. Burbridge is joined in Dead & Company by Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart as well as Jeff Chimenti and John Mayer.
Dead & Company recently announced Playing In The Sand will return in 2022. The sextet will play three full concerts on the beach between January 13 – 16, 2022. A pre-sale for past attendees begins tomorrow before all-inclusive packages go on sale to the general public this Friday, April 9 at 1 p.m. ET via PlayingInTheSand.com.
“When it first turned up in a Grateful Dead live set in June of 1969, ‘High Time’ marked a stunning step forward in the band’s evolution as songwriters and performers,” Gary Lambert wrote in a note accompanying the video. “Coming as it did on the heels of the band’s most wildly psychedelic phase, no one could have been prepared for such an unabashed, exquisitely crafted love song, poignantly sung by Jerry Garcia. Its reputation was further established when it appeared a year later on one of the band’s best-loved albums, Workingman’s Dead. Here, Oteil Burbridge provides the beautiful and soulful lead vocal.”
