The Revivalists frontman David Shaw released a cover of the holiday classic “Blue Christmas.” Shaw’s take on the song popularized by Elvis Presley marks his first new music since he issued his debut self-titled solo album this past spring and comes before he launches a solo tour on December 4 in Atlanta.

The New Orleans-based musician is backed on “Blue Christmas” by The Gifters, an ensemble featuring Pete Murano, Andriu Yanovski and David Shirley. “We had a lot of fun with this one in the studio,” said David Shaw in a press release. “We did a lot of experimenting with the vocal harmonies and used some unconventional methods to compose the beat. You gotta take it all the way out into left field and then bring it slightly back to the center. Often times that’s the only way you get something that truly feels like its own thing.”

David Shaw kicks off a 10-show trek at Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta on December 4. Shaw then brings the run to Nashville, Bloomington (Illinois), Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Boston, Philadelphia and New York City before ending the tour at Washington D.C.’s Union Stage on December 18.
