Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth released a cover of Tommy Tutone’s 1981 hit “867-5309/Jenny.” Roth put out his version, which you can hear below, as “Jenny Jenny (That telephone song)..”
Tommy Tutone originally issued the song on their 1981 album Tommy Tutone 2. “867-5309/Jenny” climbed to the #4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the spring of 1982 and led to a rash of people calling the number mentioned in the title to see if they could get “Jenny” on the phone.

David Lee Roth stayed faithful to the original version outside the addition of a harmonica solo. Roth has been putting out a string of singles in recent years including new version of such Van Halen classics as “Jump,” “Panama” and “Ain’t Talkin’ About Love.” The vocalist had a Las Vegas residency planned for 2022 that he canceled due to the pandemic.
