David Gilmour Trots Out ‘The Great Gig In The Sky’ Again In Verona
By Scott Bernstein Jul 13, 2016 • 8:04 am PDT
As reported, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour busted out Dark Side Of The Moon classic “The Great Gig In The Sky” for the first time in a decade on Thursday night in Pompeii. Gilmour and his solo band played the tune again at Friday’s Pompeii finale, but didn’t perform “Great Gig” on Sunday in Verona. Thankfully, it made its return to his setlist on Monday night in Verona.
The Verona Arena is just as historic a venue as the amphitheater Gilmour played in Pompeii. Verona Arena was built in AD 30 and is considered “one of the best preserved ancient structures of its kind.” David Gilmour performed two shows at the oldest open-air opera festival in the world including Monday’s 23-song concert. Monday’s show featured a typical Gilmour mix of solo gems and Pink Floyd classics including the tour’s third performance of “The Great Gig In The Sky.”
