David Gilmour shared a new single from his first studio album in nearly a decade, Luck and Strange, due out on September 6 via Sony Music. “Between Two Points” features harp and lead vocals from David’s daughter Romany Gilmour.

David Gilmour announced Luck and Strange in April. He teamed with Charlie Andrew (alt-J, Marika Hackman) to produce the new album following 2015’s Rattle That Lock. Along with family collaborations including lyrics by his wife Polly Samson, backing vocals from son Gabriel Gilmour and writing from son Charlie Gilmour, the new album features a posthumous appearance from Gilmour’s Pink Floyd bandmate keyboardist Richard Wright on Luck and Strange’s title track.

Gilmour previously previewed the new record with “The Piper’s Call” and now follows with “Between Two Points,” a reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ 1999 song.

“I’ve had that song on my playlist since it was released,” Gilmour said of “Between Two Points.” “More recently I mentioned it to one or two people: I assumed that it had been a hit, but no one knew it. I asked Romany to give it a go.”

Mark Tranmer of The Montgolfier Brothers weighed in on the nod:

“David and Romany’s version of our song is a great arrangement and production,” he said. “Like all the best covers, it diverges from the original but keeps the spirit. Romany’s vocal phrasing of Roger Quigley’s words and the harp playing are both truly beautiful. David Gilmour’s distinctive guitar adds a whole new dimension. I still find it incredible that David and Polly chose to cover our song from all the songs out there.”

On Romany’s contributions to the track, Gilmour said, “I realised that Romany has exactly the right sort of vulnerability and youth for the song. In fact, she was halfway through an essay with a train to catch when we asked her: ‘OK, I’ll sing it once, put the mic on’ and that is 90 percent of the finished vocal.”

“Between Two Points” arrived with a music video shot on location in London and Manchester with direction from Gavin Elder. Watch below:
