David Byrne’s Wedding News Comes With A Playlist For The Dinner

David Byrne announced he’s getting married this week to his partner, Mala Gaonkar. The former Talking Heads frontman also shared a playlist via Apple Music that will spin during the couple’s wedding dinner.

David Byrne’s wedding will coincide with the release of his first studio album in seven years, Who Is The Sky? On the dinner playlist, Byrne said:

“I’m getting married this week and made an almost entirely instrumental playlist while our guests eat an amazing and spicy dinner. My sense is that words and lyrics can be distracting — the ear goes to them, especially if it’s a song one knows. So, I opted for buoyant instrumentals that will create a hopeful and joyous atmosphere… and that folks can also ignore at the same time.”

As Consequence pointed out, the 42-song playlist contains tunes from Brian Eno, Jeff Beck, Herbie Hancock, and T Bone Burnett along with Latin artists such as El Alfa, Son Rompe Pera and Meridian Brothers.
