David Byrne Returns To ‘Saturday Night Live’ After 31 Years

Last night, David Byrne returned to Saturday Night Live for his first appearance on the television show since 1989. Byrne’s 31-year absence ended with performances taken from his Broadway production, David Byrne’s American Utopia, which just ended its original run at New York City’s Hudson Theatre.
Byrne made his SNL debut with Talking Heads in 1979. Last night’s episode, which was hosted by John Mulaney, featured the American Utopia cast performing the Talking Heads classic “Once In A Lifetime.” Byrne will begin a second American Utopia run in September. The production includes a cover of Brighton Port Authority’s “Toe Jam” that was also performed on SNL. Watch David Byrne’s return to Saturday Night Live after 31 years below:
