Trampled by Turtles‘ Dave Simonett prepped Orion, a new EP set to arrive next Friday, April 30 through Thirty Tigers. Simonett recently released two songs from Orion — “The Sun Oh Yeah” and “Central Hillside Blues.”
Dave recorded the solo set this past winter in South Minneapolis. Simonett mixed Orion to cassette and tapped Huntley Miller to master the EP.

“While separated from my band mates this last year, I decided to record a small collection of songs by myself in my little writing studio in South Minneapolis,” Simonett wrote in a post of Trampled By Turtles’ Instagram page. “Through some dark winter months these songs became an EP I’m calling Orion.”
“Central Hillside Blues” takes its title from a spot in the city that birthed Trampled By Turtles. “If you’ve spent any time in Duluth, MN you’ve no doubt at least passed through the area after which this song was named,” Dave explained. “It was written with those steep and crumbly blocks in mind and it was recorded pretty late at night.”
