Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Honor Gregg Allman In Georgia

Dave Matthews Band guitarists Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds continued their North American Tour on Wednesday night at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park in Alpharetta, Georgia. The duo used the opportunity of performing in the Allman Brothers Band’s home state to pay tribute to the late Gregg Allman.

Matthews and Reynolds opened with the tour debut of “Little Thing” and worked the tour’s first “Snow Outside” in as the third song of the night. After a series of staples, Dave and Tim performed the Allman Brothers Band classic “Melissa.” Gregg wrote “Melissa” in 1967 and it was included on the Allmans’ Eat A Peach LP in 1972 as a tribute to Duane Allman.

Dave Matthews first performed “Melissa” in Atlanta on September 8, 2007 when Gregg sat-in with the Dave Matthews Band at “The Green Concert.” One night later Dave joined Gregg and Warren Haynes for “Melissa” at Farm Aid in New York City. DMB played the song without any guests twice in 2008 and then twice with Gregg in 2009. Matthews hadn’t performed “Melissa” since September 29, 2009 before last night. Earlier in the day Dave took to Twitter to state, “Gregg left us with music that will live forever.He is an important part of the American songbook. He was kind and funny and I miss him.”

Last night’s concert rolled on with a split “Lie In Our Graves,” plenty of staples including “Warehouse,” “Stay Or Leave,” “Satellite” and “Jimi Thing.” Dave and Tim also served up the tour debut of “Pantala Naga Pampa,” while Tim dusted off his solo song “If The Ocean Had Its Way” for the first time since January 15, 2014.
