Dave Matthews Band broke out “Time Bomb” to close their Friday night concert at PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte. The cut from 2009’s Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King was last played by DMB on August 24, 2018 and previously appeared in the encore slot on July 6, 2013.
“Time Bomb” was one of four tour debuts performed by the septet at the sixth concert of their current tour. Dave Matthews led the band through “Funny The Way It Is” to open before DMB presented the first “One Sweet World” of the run complete with a “Swim Naked” outro. A pairing of “Where Are You Going” and “The Only Thing” was then followed by “Sweet,” another tour debut.
Last night’s concert rolled on with bassist Stefan Lessard working a bit of Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke” into his intro for “Crush.” From there, the group offered “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin),” “Granny” and “So Damn Lucky,” with each making its second appearance on the week-old tour. Next came “Can’t Stop” along with the trek’s initial “Lover Lay Down.”
The ensuing “Dancing Nancies” gave way to “Warehouse,” the lone song performed at all six tour stops in 2022. DMB then played the recently revived “Break For It” and “Walk Around The Moon,” a tune debuted last year. Up next was “Grace Is Gone” and a +15-minute “Jimi Thing” featuring Matthews introducing each member of the band and an “I Want To Take You Higher” outro. “She” followed before DMB foreshadowed what was to come by tacking a “Time Bomb” intro onto the set-closing “Two Step.”
Friday’s encore contained a double dose of Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. Up first was “Why I Am.” Matthews then led his bandmates through the “Time Bomb” bust out to end the evening.
