Dave Matthews Band Opens European Tour In Munich

Dave Matthews Band kicked off a month-long European tour on Wednesday night at the Zenith in Munich, Germany. The septet had a few treats in store, as they dusted off a pair of songs that hadn’t been performed in nearly three years.

Matthews & Co, who were once again joined by touring keyboardist Buddy Strong, opened with “Don’t Drink The Water” and then played “Stand Up (For It)” after a 55-show gap. The 18-song main set featured material from all nine DMB studio albums with the exception of 2002’s Busted Stuff. “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel was the lone cover to make the setlist in Munich.

The first surprise of the night came in the #12 slot, as the full band performed “Mercy” for the first time since July 29, 2016. Dave has stuck to solo or duo versions of the tune over the past few years. Next came “Satellite” which was followed by the return of “Dreamgirl.” The song from 2005’s Stand Up was last played on May 13, 2016 by DMB and on March 30, 2017 by Dave and Tim as per DMBAlmanac.com. Wednesday’s set ended with a run of “Minarets,” “Everyday,” “You Might Die Trying,” “Pantala Naga Pampa” and “Rapunzel.” DMB paired “You & Me” and “Ants Marching” as the encore. The tour continues on Friday in Dusseldorf.
