Dave Matthews Band shared pro-shot video of “JTR.” The footage comes from DMB’s May 18, 2019 concert at Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas.
“JTR” is a shortening of “John The Revelator,” inspired by a famous gospel song. The DMB tune evolved from an original riff that emerged in the late 1990s and was more fully formed during the studio sessions for Santana’s landmark 1999 album, Supernatural, as per DMB Almanac, which Dave Matthews collaborated on. While it didn’t appear on Supernatural, “JTR” did appear as a bonus track on the 2010 “Legacy Edition” of the LP.

The song also had the working “Rain Down On Me,” pulled from the refrain lyrics. As DMB Almanac notes in the setlist from Dallas on May 18, 2019, Dave and company performed “JTR” during a downpour with the audience chanting for the song.
