Dave Matthews Band’s Carter Beauford & Stefan Lessard Return From COVID-19 Absence
The band’s usual rhythm section returned after sitting out shows due to illness.
Dave Matthews Band drummer Carter Beauford and bassist Stefan Lessard rejoined the group last night for a concert in Irvine, California. The pair was absent from the band’s last four shows after the vaccinated musicians tested positive for COVID-19.
DMB announced Beauford and Lessard’s situation prior to last weekend’s three shows at The Gorge. Those performances, as well as Wednesday’s concert in Oregon, saw the band playing in various configurations and with the assistance of special guests.
The typical DMB lineup of frontman Dave Matthews, guitarist Tim Reynolds, keyboardist Buddy Strong and horn players Rashawn Ross and Jeff Coffin was joined by Beauford and Lessard when the band took the stage Friday night at Irvine’s FivePoint Amphitheatre. The show opened with a full band rendition of “Seek Up.”
Broadcast live on SiriusXM, the rest of the set contained tour staples “Funny the Way It Is,” “Can’t Stop,” “Warehouse,” “Walk Around the Moon,” “Jimi Thing,” “Dancing Nancies” and “Louisiana Bayou,” alongside others. The encore began with Matthews going solo for the tour debut of “Some Devil.” The rest of the band, including Beauford and Carter, reemerged to close out the show and encore with “Don’t Drink The Water.”
DMB Summer Tour 2021 continues tonight with another show at FivePoint Amphitheatre. Watch audience-shot video of Friday’s “Grace Is Gone” below:
