Dave Dreiwitz Talks Ween Reunion In New Interview

Tonight is the night Ween fans have been waiting for since the band broke up in 2012 as the New Hope, Pennsylvania act will come together for a reunion that starts this evening with the first of three shows at Broomfield, Colorado’s 1stBank Center. Bassist Dave Dreiwitz talked about the Ween reunion and his role in Joe Russo’s Almost Dead with Jambands.com.

Dreiwitz revealed how he heard the news that Ween would reunite, “It was just one day where we got together for Dean Ween rehearsals and Dean Ween, aka Mickey, just told me, ‘Aaron’s (“Gene Ween” Freeman) decided that we should do some playing, and we’re going to do it.’ And that was it, it was as simple as that. And it really came down to the two of them working that out. For the rest of us, it wasn’t like we had a band meeting and decided ‘Let’s do this.’ Those guys just needed to figure it out and say yes, that’s all.” The bassist explains that the members of Ween are taking “baby steps” when it comes to the reunion, but that it’s his hope that Ween “will keep this going forever” as he said, “In my mind, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t last forever and just continue. Even if we don’t make new music or if we do, I’m looking forward to just getting back to playing that music.”

While Dave enjoys his time in JRAD he is ready to get back to his role as Ween’s bassist. “Playing in JRAD is great, but I’m playing Phil Lesh’s music. I’m playing music of the Dead. Getting back to Ween, I’m Dave from Ween. I’m not in a cover band. So it’s different. That’s my music, you know. It’s apples and oranges, you can’t really compare how it feels,” Dreiwitz said.
