Daniel Lanois shared the single “Power.” The track appears on the acclaimed songwriter and producer’s upcoming new album, Heavy Sun.

Lanois will release Heavy Sun on March 19. Lanois’ 2016 solo album, Goodbye To Language included a track with the title “Heavy Sun.” The new album was recorded in Los Angeles and Toronto with Lanois joined by guitarist Rocco DeLuca, organist Johnny Shepherd and bassist Jim Wilson. The record includes the previously shared single, “(Under The) Heavy Sun.”

Regarding “Power,” which features drummer Brian Blade and bassist Chris Thomas, Lanois stated the following:

I didn’t think there was much to say about a song with such a simple message. But just yesterday I got a message from Eno asking me to sign a petition about injustices in Uganda. Apparently, a dictatorship operating under the guise of democracy. The clouds broke and the gods of reason spoke, “No Time To Rest,” by Uganda or otherwise.

Lanois further explained the imagery depicted in the “Power” video:

Native mythology talks about the half-bird half-human, “Thunderbird Woman.” She comes to show the way to balance.

May we have the POWER to get there.

Empowerment for Betterment.
