Daniel Caesar recently returned to NPR Music’s Washington D.C. headquarters after eight years for a Tiny Desk Concert performance. Caesar was backed by a 12-piece choir during a set consisting of five songs from the Canadian singer-songwriter’s latest studio album, Son of Splergy.

Son of Spergy arrived via Republic Records on October 24, 2025. Caesar took inspiration from reconciling with his parents to make the 12-track album. “Spergy” is the nickname of his father, gospel singer Norwill Simmonds.

Daniel Caesar’s 2018 Tiny Desk Concert debut is currently among the top 15 most viewed performances from the series on YouTube as per NPR. Caesar enlisted the choir to bring the gospel-infused songs from Son of Spergy to life in the intimate setting. The result is a stunning, sparse set in which Caesar and the 12-piece choir present “Rain Down,” “Emily’s Song,” “Moon,” “Who Knows” and “Sins Of The Father,” augmented by an upright piano and a guitar.
