Dan Auerbach-led band The Arcs will return with their first album in eight years, Electrophonic Chronic, on January 27, 2023 via The Black Keys frontman’s Easy Eye Sound label. The group also shared the single “Keep On Dreamin.’”
Electrophonic Chronic follows The Arcs’ 2015 debut album, Yours, Dreamily. The Arcs original lineup is Auerbach, Leon Michels, Nick Movshon, Homer Steinweiss and Richard Swift. Sadly, Swift died in 2018. The original lineup, however, was able to record a substantial amount of material before Swift passed away.
“There are probably between 80 and 100 tracks that we laid down, because we just constantly recorded after we put out Yours, Dreamily,” noted Leon Michels, who co-produced the new LP with Auerbach. “It was so much fun to be in the studio once again, so we were just making music all the time. I think there was always a plan to make a follow-up record.”
“Whether it was New York City or Nashville or L.A. or Swift’s hometown of Cottage Grove, Oregon, wherever we were, we would always get in the studio together. Always. It was our favorite thing to do,” Auerbach recalled. “It’s rare that you meet a group of people that you click with like that, who you instantly bond with. We were just having fun, making sounds, making music. It was an amazing time for me.”
Dan added:
“This new record is all about honoring Swift. It’s a way for us to say goodbye to him, by revisiting him playing and laughing, singing. It was heavy at times, but I think it was really helpful to do it.”
The Arcs previewed Electrophonic Chronic with the single, “Keep On Dreamin.'” The song kicks off with a snappy beat and horn blasts before a dreamy guitar line takes over as Auerbach’s vocals come in.
“Keep On Dreamin’” arrived with a video directed and animated by Roboshobo (Robert Schober) with character design from El Oms, who also helmed the album artwork. Watch the visual for “Keep On Dreamin'” below:
