County Commissioners Lay Out Strict Rules For Vertex Organizers

The inaugural Vertex Festival was held between August 5 – 7 on a ranch in Buena Vista, Colorado and drew approximately 8,000 attendees. On Monday night a commissioner’s meeting took place in Chaffee County, the county where the festival was held, and three Chaffee County commissioners detailed harsh conditions to organizers hoping to bring the event back to Buena Vista.
As per a report from the Denver Post, organizers Madison House Presents asked for a three-year extension but were only offered one. Additional conditions of a permit being issued are an earlier end to the music each night and a noise limit of 85 decibels.
MHP officials told the commissioners they have acts ready to sign, but can’t wait much longer for a permit to be issued. “Beyond this date, we are no longer able to successfully organize this festival. Pushing forward this decision … would be the same as saying no to us,” festival director Michael Sampliner told the commissioners as per the Denver Post’s report. The company is looking for a cap of 20,000 though are aiming more to draw in the 12,000 attendee range.
All told the meeting ran five hours and included residents on both sides of the fence: those who want the economic benefit of Vertex and those who would prefer not to have festivalgoers visit their area. Look for an official statement to be issued by Madison House Presents and parent company AEG Live about the status of Vertex in the coming days. Head to the Denver Post for more about last night’s meeting.
