Cory Wong spent last week in New York City sitting in with Louis Cato & The Late Show Band on episodes of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that aired from Monday, January 16 through Friday, January 20. The Late Show posted footage featuring the Vulfpeck guitarist fronting the program’s house band on his song “Lunchtime” during a commercial break as the latest installment of the Commercial Breakdown video series.

Wong penned “Lunchtime” for inclusion on his 2019 studio album, Motivational Music For The Syncopated Soul. The Minneapolis-based musician showed off his signature high-energy rhythmic work over the course of the six-minute rendition played for audience members at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

The Late Show Band drummer Joe Saylor and percussionist Nêgah Santos shined in a breakdown early in the song before Wong and Cato engaged in a dynamic back-and-forth. Keyboard and horn solos followed to bring the rousing rendition of “Lunchtime” to a close.

Cory Wong returns to the road on February 16 to start his winter tour with a concert in St. Louis. Victor Wooten and Trousdale are aboard as special guests for the two-week excursion.
