Grammy-winning artist Corinne Bailey Rae delivered a performance for Los Angeles area public radio station KCRW. The English singer-songwriter offered tracks from her 2023 album, Black Rainbows, at Apogee Studio in Santa Monica.

Black Rainbows arrived on September 15, 2023 via Black Rainbows Music/Thirty Tigers. Bailey Rae drew inspiration for the album from a Chicago exhibition on Black history by artist Theaster Gates, which “summoned thoughts about slavery, spirituality, beauty, survival, hope and freedom,” as per the New York Times.

As KCRW noted, Corinne’s new record sees her venturing into “punk and free jazz.” Her six-song KCRW set features rockers “Erasure” and “New York Transit Queen.” Jazzier tracks include “He Will Follow You With His Eyes,” “Red Horse,” “Peach Velvet Sky” and closer “Like a Star.”

Apogee is the private studio of legendary producer/mixer, Bob Clearmountain, who handled audio for Corinne Bailey Rae’s KCRW performance. Watch below:
