Report: Coachella’s Late Lineup Announcement Wreaking Havoc On Other Festivals

Festival-focused media outlet Festive Owl reported yesterday on the “frustration across the event industry” due to “Coachella’s ongoing billing [and] lineup issues.” Festive Owl wrote Coachella’s supposed issues were “causing delays in announcements for various festivals nationwide.”

In a recent social media post, Florida’s Resonate Suwannee festival expressed its frustration, about a radius clause delaying the announcement of a Resonate artist, while stopping short of calling Coachella out by name.

As its 2024 lineup poster indicates, a top tier artist was expected to be announced by Resonate Suwannee on January 8. Instead of that happening, Resonate took to Instagram three days ago to let followers know that “a certain festival in California” was causing a delay in an artist announcement. Festive Owl seemed to corroborate Resonate’s claims:

The curious situation has naturally stirred controversy among promoters and festivalgoers alike. Several social media commenters pointed out that a radius clause from a California festival affecting a festival in Florida is excessive, while others noted the radius clause could pertain to other parameters such as proximity of calendar date to other festivals and the right-of-first announcement.

As Festive Owl noted, Coachella’s delays are wreaking havoc on not just Resonate, which Festive Owl used as an example in the comments section of their X (formerly Twitter) post, but on festivals across the U.S.

Resonate Suwannee, taking place April 4 – 6 just ahead of Coachella, made its initial lineup announcement in December 2023. The Resonate Suwannee 2024 poster indicates another artists addition announcement is planned for January 29.

Coachella will be held at Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California over consecutive weekends, April 12-14 and April 19-21. The lineup for Coachella 2023 was announced on January 10. Coachella’s 2022 lineup was announced on January 13.
