After making a splash last fall with her U.S. television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live, CMAT (Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson) showcased the same flair for the dramatic on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The Irish star swung by the Ed Sullivan Theater to deliver a wild performance of “When A Good Man Cries” for last night’s episode of the CBS late-night television show.

“When A Good Man Cries” is featured on CMAT’s 2025 album, Euro-Country. The LP — which came out on August 29, 2025 — peaked at the top of charts in her native Ireland and climbed to the two-slot in the United Kingdom. Thompson also won raves for the record from critics worldwide.

CMAT has incredible stage presence that was displayed throughout her Colbert debut. Backed by her full band, the singer was a whirl of motion and would pantomime certain lines of “When A Good Man Cries” such as when she feigned passing out when she sang “When I pass” and moved her hand down her face while singing the title of the song.

The performance took place on a campy stage set in front of images of Irish hills. Plenty of pink was on display, including a minature Pink car emblazoned with “CMAT” as its make straight out of the Barbie movie.

CMAT kicks off a spring tour in Europe before crossing the Atlantic for dates in North America. The stateside run includes appearances at both weekends of Coachella.
