Circles Around The Sun & Scott Metzger Begin Tour In Baltimore
By Scott Bernstein Feb 28, 2020 • 9:03 am PST
Circles Around The Sun started a tour with guitarist Scott Metzger on Thursday night at The 8×10 in Baltimore. The quartet worked material from all three of their studio albums as well as their Meets Joe Russo EP into last night’s setlist.
Keyboardist Adam MacDougall, drummer Mark Levy and bassist Dan Horne are performing with a rotating cast of guitarists in the wake of founding member Neal Casal’s tragic death. Metzger toured with the band briefly last year after Eric Krasno spent the fall on the road with CATS.

Circles Around The Sun kicked off the show with “On My Mind,” the track that opens their 2018 studio album Let It Wander. The 17-minute opener was followed by a languid “Gilbert’s Groove” and Meets Joe Russo standout “When I Was At Peace.” Next up was “Leaving (Rogue Lemon),” one of two song played last night featured on the forthcoming Circles Around The Sun album.
An exploratory “Halicarnassus” that spanned nearly 20 minutes kept the instrumental music flowing. Then, CATS dug in on the “Scarlet Begonias” soundalike “Scarlotta’s Magnolias” from their debut album, Interludes For The Dead. Both Metzger and MacDougall starred on the “Immovable Object” that followed before “Babyman” gave fans their second taste of Circles Around The Sun. The four-piece went back to Let It Wander to end the night with a “One For Chuck” encore.
