Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer Chris Shiflett unveiled a new single entitled “Long, Long Year.” The latest solo track from the Foo Fighters guitarist was produced by Vance Powell (Phish, Chris Stapleton, Jack White) and features an impressive array of guest musicians.
Shiflett is joined on “Long, Long Year” by mandolinist/vocalist Sierra Hull, bassist Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, Jack White), drummer Julian Doro (Eagles of Death Metal, The Whigs), steel guitarist Luke Schneider (Margo Price, Orville Peck) and keyboardist Mike Webb (Will Hoge, Brandy Clark). The guitarist traveled from his native California to Nashville in March of 2021 to record the track.
Chris Shiflett’s last solo album was 2019’s Hard Lessons. A press release heralding the release of “Long, Long Year” mentioned more new music is due out from the guitarist “in the coming months.”
The guitarist reflected on how the track came together:
“My trip out to Nashville in March of 2021 was my first time recording any solo material since I made Hard Lessons. I hadn’t done much traveling post-covid lockdown so I was a little nervous heading out there to work with a producer and roomful of musicians I didn’t really know. In true Nashville style we made our introductions and got right down to work, hammering out the basic tracks in a few hours. Vance was great and made me feel right at home, and the group of players he put together were on point. Next day we did some overdubs and Sierra came in and added mandolin and harmony vocals on ‘Long, Long Year’ and the tracks started coming together.”
