Chris Robinson Brotherhood Debuts Otis Redding Covers At The Fillmore

One night after the Chris Robinson Brotherhood ended the first of three consecutive shows at The Fillmore in San Francisco with a pair of Neil Young cover debuts, the band did the same with another artist. Friday night’s concert featured an encore consisting of two Otis Redding songs the CRB had never played before.
The show began with a pair of sets that saw Robinson & Co. dig a little deeper into their repertoire than usual. Chris and his mates plucked originals from nearly each of their studio releases and leaned heavily on covers. The evening’s first set began with the troupe’s rendition of Nat Stuckey’s “Sweet Thang & Cisco” and later saw the CRB play a double dose of Crowes tunes in “Tornado” and “Roll Old Jeremiah.” Aretha Franklin’s “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man” came next followed by a run of “About A Stranger,” “Clear Blue Sky & The Good Doctor” and “Sunday Sound” to end the opening stanza.
Friday’s second set saw the Chris Robinson Brotherhood open with a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Let It Bleed.” The CRB then focused on original material including “Wheel Don’t Roll” and “Glow” ahead of their take on Bob Dylan’s “Tough Mama.” For the encore, Robinson sang Redding’s “The Happy Song (Dum-Dum)” and “I Can’t Turn You Loose” for the first time. On Saturday night, the CRB concludes their 2017 touring activity with a final show at The Fillmore.
