Charley Crockett can count himself among the many musicians who have covered Bob Dylan’s classic “All Along The Watchtower.” The Waco, Texas native recently recorded a live solo acoustic guitar version of the song during an appearance on SiriusXM.

Containing just 12 lines of lyrics, Dylan recorded “All Along The Watchtower” for his album, John Wesley Harding, which was released in December 1967. Jimi Hendrix, having obtained an unreleased tape of Dylan’s recording of the song, prepared a cover of “All Along The Watchtower” for inclusion on the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s album, Electric Ladyland, which came out in October 1968. Becoming one of the most covered songs, “Watchtower” has been performed by a nearly countless array of other musicians influenced by both Dylan and Hendrix’s recordings.

Crockett, whose 2022 included the release of his album, The Man from Waco, and the latest in his “Lil G.L.” series of covers albums, Lil G.L. Presents: Jukebox Charley, performed his Americana-fied Dylan cover as part of a SiriusXM “Spectrum Session.” Crockett’s appearance also featured an interview with Mark Hamilton.
